When two or more frameworks use the same symbol—like $—as a shortcut, they can interfere with one another. This overlap can cause unexpected behavior or even break your scripts, depending on which library takes control of the symbol.

jQuery’s Solution: noConflict()

To prevent such issues, the jQuery team introduced the noConflict() method. This method releases jQuery’s control of the $ symbol, allowing other libraries to use it without conflict.

You can still use jQuery after calling noConflict(), but you’ll need to reference it using a different variable. For example:

var jq = jQuery.noConflict();
jq(document).ready(function(){

In this example, jq is used instead of $ to ensure that jQuery works peacefully alongside other libraries.

Understanding the jQuery.noConflict() Method

Creating a Custom jQuery Shortcut

Instead of using the full jQuery keyword every time, you can assign jQuery to a new variable of your choice. This is possible because noConflict() returns a reference to the jQuery object:

    jq("p").text("jQuery is still working!");
  });
});

In this example, jq is used in place of $, keeping your code clean and concise while avoiding any clashes.

Using $ Locally Inside a Code Block

If you have a block of code that already uses $, and you’d rather not refactor everything, there’s a workaround. You can pass $ as a parameter to the ready() method. This lets you use $ inside that function while avoiding global conflicts.

$.noConflict();

jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
  $("button").click(function() {
    $("p").text("jQuery is still working!");
  });
});

In this case, $ is only available within the scope of the ready() callback. Outside of it, you'll still need to use jQuery.
